The major portion of this book of 40 sermons are homilies for various sacramental or special liturgical events: baptism, confirmation, communal penitential rites, £wst communion, anointing of the sick, nuptial Mass, Christian burial, and priestly ordination. Since the ministry of the word encompasses certain nonliturgical events: rosary devotion, bible vigil, sacred heart devotion, wake service, etc., several homilies for these are provided. Finally, a few sermons for occasional parish functions: the commissioning of catechists, and annual opening meeting of a parish council, and parish concerns are included: jubilees and anniversaries, charismatic prayer group, reverence for life, high school commencement, etc. "Fr. Liptak is experienced in pastoral and liturgical work, is skilled in writing and delivering homilies, and is a writer of lengthy experience. Therefore, to all interested in the art of developing homilies I warmly commend this new, wecome book of his." Most Rev. John F. Whealon, Archbishop of Hartford
