The three-volume series, "The Way of the Lord Jesus," was launched in 1983 with "Christian Moral Principles." The book articulates a general theory of morality and theology of Christian Life.

Volume 2 (Living a Christian Life) discusses the moral theology that developed after the Council of Trent and persisted until very recently and which concentrated on clarifying for individual Catholics the outer limits: mortal sin and its avoidance. Vatican II called for a renewed moral theology that would deal more adequately with affirmative responsibilities. While Scripture, tradition, and Church teaching, taken together, contain everything Catholics need to shape their lives, the wealth of material must be gathered up and synthesized. "Living a Christian Life" responds to Vatican II's call for renewal and attempts the necessary synthesis by dealing with the specific questions that concern all or most Catholics. It examines both negative and affirmative responsibilities without neglecting the communal character of Christian life and treats all the specific moral norms that are now being questioned. The Church's teaching not only is presented accurately but explained, so that its truth is clarified in the light of Gospel values and a profoundly Christian humanism.

The third volume in the series (Difficult Moral Questions) deals with two hundred difficult moral questions that concern lay people today. Though the Church's explicit teaching does not provide answers to any of these questions, moral principles and norms taught by the Church are brought to bear in discussing them. The first forty-two questions concern religious and family responsibilities. The next fifty concern health care, both from the point of view of caregivers and patients. Sixty questions concern the environment, property, business, work, advertising, and public relations. The final forty-eight questions concern education, civic life, and legal and political matters.
