December 24 – Christmas Eve

December 24 – Christmas Eve

Worship materials for Christmas Eve through to Epiphany were contributed by Brenda Duckworth, Francis Sandy Theological Centre, Paris, Ontario.

Isaiah 9:2–7

A child has been born for us.

Psalm 96 (VU p. 816)

Sing to God a new song.

Titus 2:11–14

Live a godly, upright life.

Luke 2:1–14, (15–20)

Jesus’ birth.

Spark

Create a drama with both children and adults as actors. To begin, have most of the players frozen in place in “a prison.” Suddenly a light shines on them, and they can move and are freed. Meanwhile, in another corner, Mary and Joseph have just settled down in the stable, and a light shines on them, focusing on their baby.

With Children

Ask the children what they do about good news. Do they share it? If so, have the children prepare an announcement or banner regarding the good news of Jesus. They can share it with the congregation.

Sermon Starter

In this day, we represent the shepherds who were informed of Jesus’ birth and told not to be afraid as good news was being delivered about great joy that would be for all people. The shepherds spread the word about the child as it is told to them.

Remember, folks, in this day it is our mission to spread the good news for all the people.
