Prayers for Worship
by David von Schlichten

Call to Worship

Leader: God, Three-in-One, feeds us.
People: Christ opens wide the divine hands to satisfy the desires of every living thing.
Leader: The Almighty fills us
People: so we can fill others.

Invocation

Rabbi, we praise you for teaching us how you bring abundance out of a small amount. Astounding! Keep tutoring us to give to others with faith in your multiplication-power. In your name we pray by the Spirit’s power according to God’s will. Amen.

Prayer of Confession

How often we sin against you, Mother. We doubt your power. We fail to give to you, thinking that our tiny amount cannot make a difference. You root us and seek to strengthen us, but we resist. You want to nourish us with delicious wisdom, yet we would rather get sick on spiritual and intellectual junk-food.

For the sake of Christ, forgive us. Empty and refill us. Yes.

Words of Assurance

Alleluia, by the blood of the Lamb, God has saved you from death. All your sins: gone. You are filled up. Alleluia!

Prayer of Inspiration

Holy Spirit, through this sermon, teach us to comprehend what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the fulfilling love.

Prayers of the People

That we shall learn from Mary, Martha, Lazarus and other great Christians, we pray (congregational response: help us, God.).

That the Church will always feed those who hunger in any manner, we pray . . .

That our nation will increase in compassion and decrease in violence, we pray . . .

That the victims of the Colorado shooting will know healing and that all of us in America will work toward preventing such shootings, we pray . . .

That we will help young men to find non-violent solutions to their problems and peaceful ways of expressing their pain, we pray . . .

That you will touch with healing all we mention: [Add names.], we pray . . .

That we will all work to end sexual abuse against children, we pray . . .

(You may add other praises and petitions here...)

In Christ’s name, we place these prayers into your open hands. Amen.

Offertory Prayer

May our offering help to feed the hungry. Yes.

Benediction

Leader: God, Father, Son, and Spirit, has filled us with good things
People: and sends us to share them with all. Alleluia!
