 “Come, Lord Jesus, Come”

Call to Worship:

L:      God has come to us in Jesus the Christ, the good shepherd who seeks out and saves the lost, who calls wayward ones home.

M:  Christ comes still to sit and eat with sinners, to prove and proclaim the good news of God's everlasting, inclusive love that welcomes the lost and transforms lives.

N:     In our worshiping together, let us attend to the voice of Christ Jesus, the shepherd of our souls; let us hear his homing call and reach out to him who reaches for us.

*Opening Song #361  “Rock of Ages”

*Invocation:

   Lord Jesus, if you did not keep company with sinners, we would have no sense of your presence here with us, no experience of your welcoming love. For we are both lost and found, lost by the imperfections and frailty of our human nature still in need of transformation, and found by your kind_ness and care, as our gentle shepherd and rescuing Savior. Support us now in our desire to offer praise and thanksgiving for the gracious provision of your risen presence and your shepherding concern in this journey of life.

*The Lord’s Prayer:

   Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory for ever.  Amen

*Assurance of Pardon:

   God loved us enough to ensure our salvation in Christ Jesus. By pardoning our sin, God makes us a new people, a people saved by grace, a people transformed by the power of love. Glory be to God!  Praise be to God!

*389  “Freely, Freely”

Personal Prayers in Silence

Pastoral Prayer

   God of all the ages, in your sight nations rise and fall, and pass through times of peril. Now when our land is troubled, be near to judge and save. May leaders be led by your wisdom; may they search your will and see it clearly. If we have turned away from your way, reverse our ways and help us to repent. Give us your light and your truth, let them guide us; through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of this world, and our Savior. Amen.

Special Music — Beverly Zimmer & Becky Beck

Responsive Psalm Psalm 51:1-10

      O loving and kind God, take pity on me,

            and remove the stain of my sin;

            my faults haunt me night and day,

            and you are right in judging me;

            from its beginnings

            my life has been intertwined with sin.

"Remove the burden of our sin, O God."

            Since you love sincerity of heart,

            teach me the secrets of wisdom;

            remove my sin and I will be clean,

            wash me and I will be whiter than snow;

            make me whole again, and give me joy;

            create a pure heart in me, O God,

            give me a new and loyal spirit,

            do not deprive me of your presence;

            restore unto me the joy of your salvation,

            and save me from disobedience.

"Remove the burden of our sin, O God."

Building Project — As the building progresses, we now need to begin paying for the construction.  Your timely payment of pledges helps minimize and delay borrowing.  If you have not yet pledged, additional contributions are still needed to lower the loan amount and duration.  A pledge card is available on the table in the entryway.  Pledges are important because they help the Trustees during the construction and financing phase deal to know how much we can expect to receive each year.

Luke 15:1-10  Now all the tax collectors and sinners were coming near to listen to him. And the Pharisees and the scribes were grumbling and saying, "This fellow welcomes sinners and eats with them." So he told them this parable: "Which one of you, having a hundred sheep and losing one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go after the one that is lost until he finds it? When he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders and rejoices. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.' Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance. "Or what woman having ten silver coins, if she loses one of them, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it? When he has found it, she call together her friends and neighbors, saying, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin that I had lost.' Just so, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."
