Lord, Help Us Know Your Word

Lord, Help Us Know Your Word by Carter Cortelyou
(Tune: Finlandia) Lord, help us know your word so rarely heard above the thundering commerce of our ways– so dearly sought in anxious nights of waiting, so quick forgot among our lifeless days. Give us the grace to trust in your providing and living peace to listen for your Word. Lord, help us see the vision you reveal behind our fading dreams of wealth and power– so dearly sought to clear away confusion, so quick forgot within decision’s hour. Our hearts make pure that we may live to serve you and in your presence, learn to do your will. Lord, help us hear the word that you are speaking and as your servants, listen to your call– so dearly sought to usher in your kingdom, and ne’er forgot where hope is shared with all. Though ears may ring and hearts in fear may tremble, help us to trust the righteousness you do. Lord, help us speak the word that you are giving, and work to raise the justice you demand– so dearly sought to usher in your kingdom, and ne’er forgot where love’s light fills the land. Where wealth and might serve first the poor and outcast and all your people in your blessing stand. ©Carter Garrigues-Cortelyou 1998 (Comments to Carter at cgarrigues@gmail.com) Royal Oak, MI
