Prayers for Worship
Proper 22B
by Linda Kraft

Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus, for all people according to their needs:

Loving Creator, you have provided all that we need: food and shelter, family and friends, more than we could ask for. Remind us of those who hunger and thirst, not only for the comfort we take for granted, but for the good news of your never-ending love. Encourage us to share from our bounty so that others may truly live. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. (Genesis 2:18-24)

Sovereign God, ruler of the Universe, you have established humanity as your servants in this world, as caretakers of all that you have created. You only ask us to respect the land, the creatures and each other. When our greed threatens to destroy your plans for harmony remind us to honor your original plans for peace and justice. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. (Psalm 8)

God of heaven and earth, you sent your only son, Jesus, to be our companion, our guide and our savior. This good news cannot be contained. Help us to tell others of the hope that you offer to the world through Jesus’ life and sacrifice. Make us bold to share your love through our words and actions each day. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. (Hebrews 1:1-4, 2:5-12)

Healing Lord, you brought children into your embrace, laid hands on them and blessed them. We beg your healing touch on these we name:

Are there others we should include in our prayers?

When the world seems to challenge us at every turn, we ask your presence to make us whole. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. (Mark 10:2-16)

Into your hands O Lord we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy; through your son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
