Lent 2
Lent 2

Although this week's readings are familiar ones, they still produced some pictures in my mind of things I hadn't thought much about recently. I pictured Isaac with his dad, both wondering what was happening. I also wonder what Abraham said to Isaac on the way down the mountain. I pictured how the apostles looked, terified as they were, when Jesus was being transfigured, to say nothing of their reaction at the sight of Moses and Elijah. Can you imagine only talking about "what rising from the dead meant" after those sights?

The images that remained with me the longest, however, are from the selection from Romans. "If God is for us, who can be against us?" puts God as our Supreme Cheerleader. That's a great thought to ponder during a season when we focus on repentance from our sins. He really does still love us, sins and all ! Jesus even intercedes for us at the right Hand of God. So we have God on our side, Jesus chiming in, and , oh yes, the Advocate who is always there, too. This sounds like the A +++ Team to me... yet, I wonder and worry about how things in my life will turn out. Really, Lanie.

But I do, and I imagine most people do as well, even people of faith like me. The entire selection from Romans reminds us of God's positive stance toward us. In a sense, this thought becomes a security blanket and the energy and impetus that allows us to do whatever it takes to respond to this incredible endorsement. God will give us "everything else" to be the person He created.

I am reminded of a plaque that said "what would you do if you knew you could not fail." My question to myself is what does God want me to do for Him and with Him?.... for surely He will see it accomplished. Endorsed by God... now that is something special.
