Closer to Home
by Tom Cox

"But you, who do you say I am?" There is a force, a directness to this question which is addressed to each of us personally. We each have to work out the answer for ourselves.

Our response needs to be as personal as our relationship with Him. Anyone can report back what others say, answering this question however, requires a disciple. In the same way, while it may be easy to look at others and ridicule their religion, we instinctively know it's not about what others do and say. It's about what YOU do and say that counts. Unless we have matters straight in our own hearts about the identity of this Jesus, nothing else matters.

In time of tragedy, you are the still centre of our being;
In time of joy, you are the wine of abundance and rejoicing;
In time of adversity, you are by my side;
In time of suffering, when we stumble on and do not understand, you teach us to trust."

"Christianity is not a collection of truths to be believed, of laws to be obeyed...Christianity is a person...Christianity is Christ." (Archbishop Oscar Romero)
