Prayers for Worship
by David von Schlichten

Call to Worship

Leader: Alleluia! The Risen Christ is the Good Shepherd.
People: God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, is with us all the days our lives.
Leader: Our Savior prepares a table before us.
People: We will dwell in the house of the LORD forevermore. Alleluia!

Invocation

God, through Death Valley you have led us to the empty tomb. Yes! Renew our dedication to obeying your commandments, that we may abide in Christ and Christ in us. In the Savior’s name we pray. Amen.

Prayer of Confession

Cornerstone Adonai, we sin against you. We listen to the wrong voices, those of wolves, instead of to your voice. We wander into briar patches. We think we can do everything ourselves without you or the guidance of the rest of the flock. We are as fair-weather as a hired hand. We think we get to decide who is in the flock.

For the sake of the Shepherd Lamb, forgive us. Seek and rescue us. Yes.

Words of Assurance

Alleluia, Christ is risen! The Lamb was slain. The Shepherd has found us. Through the Blood, God forgives you all your sins. We shall not want. Alleluia!

Prayer of Inspiration

Holy Spirit, as you filled Peter to preach the Good News, fill us, that each of us may hear and preach the Good News every hour of the week.

Prayers of the People

We thank you, God, for leading the Church for two-thousand years. We are grateful for apostles such as Philip and James; bishops such as Athanasius; and leaders such as Catherine of Siena and Monica. Green pasture-Lord, (congregational response: your voice heals us.).

We exalt you for the United States and all of your magnificent creation. Bless President Obama and each one of us, that we may take better care of your world, including people in need. Green pasture-Lord, . . .

We praise you, Adonai, for healing us. Put your arms around everyone in need of healing [Add names], and direct us in how to care for others. Green-pasture Lord, . . .

(You may add other praises and petitions here...)

These prayers we give to you, thankful that you give to us compassionate, wise responses. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

Offertory Prayer

Accept our gifts, O Lord, for the healing of the nations.

Benediction

Leader: The Everlasting Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, lead and protect us with rod and staff.
People: We follow your voice, answering the call to live the Resurrection. Alleluia!
