Prayers and Poem for Worship

Prayers for Worship Proper 25 by Ron Gordon

Mark 10: 46-52

Collect:

Lord Jesus you hear the persistent cry of our afflictions and call us to yourself. You affirm our faith and address our needs: your saving power is at work. Give us all the vision of your redeeming love: living, dying and being raised for us all, we ask in your name. Amen.

Prayer:
Father of Jesus, we see Jesus as the fullest revelation of you, showing us the loving nature of our God. We see behind his deeds and words and his loving offering of himself, to the One who is infinitely gracious, who listens to us all and neglects none. Father, we adore you. Lord Jesus, you heard the cry of Bartimaeus, called him to yourself and aided him. You did not pass him by or classify him as hopeless: you saw him as a real person. Where your people too easily ignore the needs of others who are disabled, odd or derelict: Lord, have mercy. Lord Jesus, we see that you went towards Jerusalem and the final conflict with disciples who did not understand your mission and could not share your way to the cross. Where your people speak too lightly of suffering and crosses: Christ, have mercy. Spirit of God, you sustain us when we call upon God to aid us and all who cry to you: keep us sensitive to others and deliver us from hardness of heart. Lord, have mercy. Holy is he who came among us to live in fullness of life for others, who gave himself up for us on the cross, and who brings us pardon, peace and joy: Jesus Christ our Lord, who with the Father and the Holy Spirit is blessed for ever and ever: Amen. © 2009 Ron Gordon (used with permission)

Mark 10:46-52 for far too many years we sit beside the road while pilgrims ply the lanes in front of our unseeing eyes and all the while we hear their tread and raise our arms hoping one might come to lift us from the dark we call and voices parry back with sharp disdain to silence our refrain where is the one who will release us from this cloak of darkness far too long we sit beggars on the road to anywhere shouting for mercy (Comments to Jenn at jennieg@labyrinth.net.au.)
