Prayers for Worship
Lent 5B
by Linda Kraft

Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus, for all people according to their needs:

Faithful God, you have not forgotten the age-old promise. You have guided and directed your people throughout time. Help us to listen for your direction. Strengthen us through the constant testimony of other believers so that your will may be written on our hearts. And, send us into the world as eager witnesses to the joy your love provides. Into your hands O Lord, we commend our spirits. (Jer 31:31-34)

Merciful God, you continually reach out to save us from our own rebellion. You try to teach us wisdom through your word, but we do not always listen. You have washed us clean in baptism, and given us new life in your Spirit. As we repeatedly turn away each day, draw us back and forgive our sins so that we will know we are saved and we are sent to share the joy your love provides. Into your hands O Lord, we commend our spirits. (Psalm 51:1-13)

Listening God, you invite us to come to you with all our needs, with our hopes and our fears. You have provided your Son, Jesus, to be our intercessor. Through his death and resurrection we have access to you. Hear our pleas on behalf or those who cannot speak for themselves. We pray for the homeless and the hungry, for people who live in fear because of domestic violence or all-out war. We pray for those who feel abandoned by the Church as they search for their identity in you. For our brothers and sisters of all ages, all colors, all traditions, we pray. Into your hands O Lord, we commend our spirits. (Heb 5:5-10)

Timeless God, you draw all people to yourself to offer them eternal healing. Be present with those who need your comfort today, especially ...

Are there others we should include in our prayers?

Help us to see you, Lord, in the face of each hurting person, and encourage us to share your healing love with them. Into your hands O Lord, we commend our spirits. (John 12:20-33)

Into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy; through your son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
