Born of the Virgin Mary
A priest of my acquaintance had decided that printed service booklets were
much more "user friendly" than juggling prayer books and hymnals, for the
numerous wedding attendees not familiar with the liturgy.
Ever one to be efficient, he refined this process with every new wedding
he performed.
One day he thought using a "search and replace" function would be the
simplest way to replace the names of the previous bride and groom with those of
the current couple.
All worked well until one time the previous pair were named "Mary and
Mike." The current spouses-to-be were "Edith and Joe". The
latest ceremony proceeded uneventfully until it came time to recite the Creed.
Then it was observed that a slight revision had occurred in the traditional
form. Now the Saviour was described as having been "Born of the Virgin Edith...."
