A Hymn To the Trinity
A Hymn To the Trinity
by Gary L. Lake Dillensnyder

[to the tune: "PASSION CHORALE" (7.6 D)]
................................................................
some call you Heavenly Father
but I stumble on that name
it's not the heavenly image
but a gendered-power game
to add unto it Mother
does less than make it pure
why can't we know you simply
as God-dess plain and sure?
.............................................
my father was a fine man
with gifts and blessings true
he shared himself with others
sometimes in sacrifice knew
yet as good and as courageous
God-dess he'd never been
he always gave the glory
to you Blessed One within.
.............................................
so may we sure remember
your presence in our lives
as One, Immortal Holy,
Almighty, whom revives
the Sacred Mystery with us
elusive from our grasp
transcending name and language
yet found in every gasp.
.............................................
so breathe we in, O Spirit,
like wind and breath and air
in natural rhythm flowing
your love for us to share
God-dess of every people
whom you command each day
to be in peace and justice
and humbly walk your way.
