Return to the Source
by Tom Cox

We all know that having an incorrect address on your mail, means it won't reach the intended recipient. But, if you were to send a letter to God, what address would you use? The answer is, of course, "Heaven" (hopefully the Post Office knows the postal code). Similarly prayers to Jesus could be addressed "Jesus in heaven, at the right hand of God." But how about the Holy Spirit?

That's where we get stumped. Where is the Holy Spirit, that you can pin it down to an address? The answer is… right here. The Holy Spirit exists here in the world. He is all around you and in you. He is the comforter, the supporter, the enabler. Older generations still call him the "Holy Ghost." If so, he is certainly a friendly one. Others find the word "ghost" unhelpful. But whatever term we use, it's far worse that people don't call on the Spirit of God. We can treat it like a family heirloom, trotting it out for an annual peek at best. We can have it for years, use it, admire it, take care of it, but never fully possess it. Which is a shame, as Christ promised that the Holy Spirit will take his place on earth. Call on the Holy Spirit, it won't even need a stamp.
